We are just in the heart of the jungle

Our Location

Only 4 hours from Cusco City (Peru) is one of the best preserved forests in the Peruvian Amazon. SOQTAPATA is the name of this ambitious project that seeks to protect and conserve more than 9,000 hectares of virgin forests, a hotspot located in the biodiverse tropical Andes. SOQTAPATA is also the name of this magical, mystical and intriguing place, between 900 and 4,600 m.a.s.l., home to countless ancient plants and emblematic species such as the Andean bear, jaguar, cock of the rocks, monkeys, orquids, ferns, among many others. Since 2007, this project located in Camanti - Cusco; with the collaboration of professionals from different specialties and supported by the Peruvian State, seeks conservation through the execution of programs interested in scientific research, social participation, environmental education and ecotourism. The purpose of this project is to help mitigate the negative impact of human activity on the forest, protecting and restoring its natural balance and well-being.

How to get there

From Lima

From Lima you should take a domestic flight to Cusco or Puerto Maldonado, depending on your preference or travel plans. Air flights are not included in the program rates. If you don't have planned tourism activities in Puerto Maldonado, we suggest you fly to Cusco. For those that suffer from altitude sickness or health issues triggered by altitude, we suggest you fly to Puerto Maldonado.

From Cusco (included)

The largest number of trips to reach the SOQTAPATA Nature Reserve departs from Cusco City at our meeting points located at the Plaza de Armas and/or the Velasco Astete Airport (this can be coordinated). We begin our journey at dawn (5:00am) in comfortable and fully equiped private vans, in which we will cross the South Valley and high Andean communities reaching 4,700 m.s., from where we will begin our descense to the jungle (900 m.n.m.) During the road trip there are a few stops to contemplate and take pictures of the colorful and unique landscapes; have breakfast and stretch. At our arrival to the main entrance of the reserve (Km 174 South Interoceanic Highway), the trip continues on foot (approx. 45 minutes) through the forest, crossing two rivers until we reach base camp.

From Puerto Maldonado
