CONSERVATION
"A SPECIES THAT CAN CHANGE THE COURSE OF DEFORESTATION IN THE TROPICAL ANDES”
Ukumari is a project that brings together interdisciplinary talent (Acendes + Herpiro), rural population and technology in a collaborative platform that encourages citizen participation for the conservation of natural spaces and wildlife.
The spectacled bear is considered an umbrella species, since it covers large areas of life and are good indicators of the state of conservation of its habitats. In this way, if their survival is guaranteed, that of many other native species in a region will also be ensured, by protecting large and well-connected areas (WWF et al. 2003).
Likewise, it is considered a legitimate disperser of the seeds of some fruits that it consumes, therefore, it is attributed an important role in the recovery and regeneration of forests (Rivadeneira, 2008). For these reasons, we consider that it is very important to promote the conservation of the spectacled bear through research to generate information about the species.

THE TEAM
AN AMBITIOUS PROJECT NEEDS THE BEST TALENT FOR ITS EXECUTION.
THE ACENDAS TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEE PROJECT DESIGN, LOGISTICS PREPARATION AND FIELD INVESTIGATION. A PROFESSIONAL TEAM THAT HAS A GREAT COMMITMENT TO THE CONSERVATION OF CAMANTI AND THE PROTECTION OF THE ANDEAN BEAR.
FINDINGS
UNDERSTANDING THE AREA
THE PRELIMINARY STUDY OF THIS PROJECT CONSISTED OF A MONITORING OF 03 MONTHS WITH TRAP CAMERAS TO EVALUATE THE PRESENCE OF THE ANDEAN BEAR WITHIN SOQTAPATA, BETWEEN 900 M.A.S.L TO 2 500 M.A.S.L. ALSO, THE PRESENCE OF DIVERSE FAUNA WAS EVALUATED THAT INDICATES A SUITABLE STATE OF CONSERVATION OF THE FORESTS AND AN ABUNDANCE OF FOOD.
